Lifting platform could prevent worker slips and falls

South Carolina employers who require their employees to work on ladders may be interested in a new lifting platform that improves the safety of elevated work. The product is called the JLG LiftPod.

Employees who must use ladders are always at risk for a fall due to slips, over-reaching and equipment stability issues. However, the LiftPod provides a secure working platform that can elevate to a height of more than 14 feet. The platform, which comes with an attachable work tray, is enclosed to prevent falls and allows employees to safely use both hands in a 360-degree range without working precariously. This eliminates the need for the two-person team required by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for ladder jobs.

The LiftPod is portable and weighs less than 150 pounds. It also assembles in less than 30 seconds and can be moved through doorways without having to be broken down. An optional power pack and 18-volt drill are available for flexibility. Suggested uses for the LiftPod include lighting installation, painting, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance and any other tasks that require an elevated work area.

Slips and falls cause thousands of serious workplace injuries to Americans every year. A South Carolina resident who is injured on the job may be eligible to apply for workers’ compensation benefits. These benefits cover medical expenses and a portion of a worker’s salary while they recover from an injury. Some people find it helpful to consult with an attorney while preparing their workers’ compensation claim to ensure that all required documentation is included and all deadlines are met.
