Falling in the workplace can be deadly

The adage, ‘Watch where you’re going” certainly applies to all South Carolina workers, especially those who may be employed in the construction trades. Workers who don’t pay attention to where they’re going could end up dead as a result of a slip, fall or trip.

Falling can be especially hazardous to one’s health. In 2014, 660 workers died from falling from above and another 138 died from a fall on the same level, according to the 2017 edition of Injury Facts from the National Safety Council. Even if they’re working in familiar surroundings, workers need to be aware they could slip, trip or fall at any time if they do not pay attention to where they’re going.

Construction workers are more prone to falls from heights, in 2016, 370 of 991 construction fatalities were workers who fell from above. To prevent workplace accidents such as these, workers should have a fall prevention plan in place and make sure fall prevention systems, such as guardrails are on site. They also should wear protective equipment and always ensure ladders are on a firm base. Workers at any level need to avoid distractions, such as using a cell phone, and clean up any spills immediately.

Workers who are injured on the job in South Carolina may be eligible for worker’s compensation claims. Benefits can include replacement of lost wages if the person cannot work, medical expenses and retraining if the worker cannot return to their pre-injury position. If a worker dies as a result of their injury, death benefits may be available and surviving family members might be eligible for income replacement benefits.

There are, however, legal nuances that make navigating a claim on your own difficult...

Not only was he able to go up and beyond the call of duty for me, he knows his client and your not a number to him. John was a beacon of hope to me at a time when my options appeared limited and the likelihood of a satisfactory resolution seemed nigh on impossible.

I highly recommend this law firm. King Smith represented me for a wreck in 2019 and obtained a fair and fast resolution to my claim.

We're at the end of the case now and I have nothing but confidence in my attorney. After a workplace injury, friends wanted me to hire a lawyer. When I finally reached that point, John Griffith turned out to be the best match. I spoke with seven but he was the one lawyer of the bunch who seemed to want to work for me.
