Crash in South Carolina includes fatality

A car crash occurred on Sept. 13 after a South Carolina woman allegedly failed to yield the right of way at an Oconee County stop sign. The wreck reportedly happened in Seneca at approximately 8 p.m.

Officials said that the 58-year old driver of a 2002 Isuzu SUV who did not yield at the stop sign collided with a Jeep Wrangler. The woman driving the Isuzu became trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency personnel ultimately transported her to the Oconee Medical Center, where she later died due to blunt force trauma, according to officials. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler suffered injuries as a result of the collision and received emergency transport to the Oconee Medical Center as well. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, neither vehicle was carrying passengers at the time of the crash.

When drivers suffer injuries as a result of an accident caused by another driver, they may be entitled to personal injury compensation via civil action. In the event that the at-fault driver died, a suit may be brought against the estate of that driver. For this reason, many accident victims retain the representation of a personal injury lawyer, who may advise victims whether a lawsuit appears tenable.

Furthermore, a personal injury attorney might help guide victims in obtaining proof of the pecuniary damages they suffered in connection with a car accident, including hospital receipts and medical care documentation. Besides gleaning material form the police investigation that bolsters the personal injury claim, the lawyer may also adopt evidence from independent investigations into the incident. For, claimants in a personal injury lawsuit must prove to a civil court that the at-fault driver or the party’s estate should be held liable for the accident in order to prevail.
